JAKARTA. Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo) chairman Sofjan Wanandi and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry's (Kadin) advisory board member, Arifin Panigoro, have protested the appointment of businessman Oesman Sapta to become Kadin's new caretaker.

Both men allege that Oesman was unilaterally appointed by an invalid extraordinary meeting, which was not organized by Kadin, in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, on April 26-27.

“I am pretty busy with Apindo. The Pontianak extraordinary meeting was unilaterally held without my knowledge. From the beginning, I did not agree to the proposal of an extraordinary meeting and, therefore, the meeting was illegal,” said Sofjan on Sunday as quoted by Antara news agency.

His view was echoed by Arifin Panigoro, whose name was also omitted from the meeting.

“I was not given any information about the Pontianak extraordinary meeting, let alone appointed to serve under Pak Oesman,” said Arifin.

On April 26-27, Oesman Sapta Odang held an extraordinary meeting allegedly on behalf of Kadin, which was attended by six regional Kadin members from Pontianak, West Kalimantan. The result was the appointment of Oesman as the new Kadin chief.

Tony Uloli, deputy chair of the Kadin advisory board, said the extraordinary meeting proposal did not represent the majority of Kadin members because the provincial Kadin, associations, advisory board, and Kadin board members, all supported the current board under the leadership of Suryo Bambang Sulisto, whose term ends in 2015.
